Michael is based in Dublin and writes music for film, TV, dance and media. Over the last few years he has scored numerous award-winning films including 'Mattress Men','The Queen of Ireland','Nuala','Voices from the Grave','Deep End Dance','Downpour', and the BAFTA-nominated animation film 'Here to Fall'.
He works in many styles including orchestral, electronic, rock, folk, and experimental, and has recorded with many ensembles such as the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Dublin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dublin Guitar Quartet, and New Dublin Voices.
Production companies he has collaborated with include: RTÉ, BBC, Tile Films, Blinder Films, Accidental Pictures, In The Company of Huskies, Publicis, Wildfire Films, Animo TV, Fastnet Films, Zucca Films, vStream Digital Media, True Films, Invisibile Thread Productions, Twopair Films, Wildcard Distribution, El Zorrero Films, and Black North Animation/Visual FX Studio. He has also worked with independent artists and dance companies such as CoisCéim Dance Theatre, Catherine Young Dance, and Legitimate Bodies.
Michael's film-music influences include the work of Alexandre Desplat, Gustavo Santaolalla, Thomas Newman, Danny Elfman, Jon Brion, Nick Cave & Warren Ellis, Cliff Martinez, and Jonny Greenwood. Other musical influences are too numerous to list here but range from The Low Anthem, Bonnie Prince Billy, and Sufjan Stevens, to Igor Stravinsky, Arvo Pärt, Kronos Quartet, Sonic Youth, The Books, Speedy J, Radiohead, and A Winged Victory for the Sullen.
For a number of years he also played guitar, banjo, and bouzouki with Dublin-based rock band, The Jimmy Cake.
